The colors....
First I usually warm up the black & white with a sepia overlay. Than I layer the colors for each element using whichever technique works best for the tonality beneath it (color overlay/curves/levels/channel mixer/etc...)
Although by the time I'm done I've forgotten exactly how I did it....and have to start from scratch on the next pic.
Yup...it takes an awfully long time with a lot of trial and error....which is why as soon as I master this digital camera I'm gonna give your recipe a try.
